Frequently Asked Questions

Romax is highly focused on drivetrain design, analysis, and optimization. Drivetrain systems present unique challenges due to their highly nonlinear behavior at the gear and bearing contact surfaces. As such, the Romax applications offer highly efficient modeling and analysis capabilities which cannot be matched using general-purpose CAE tools.

Romax uses quasi-static and frequency domain methods to perform structural analysis and NVH analysis of the drivetrain. It can be more like an FE code with parametric component modeling, advanced analytical contact models, rapid solve times, and critical results reported using easy-to-understand engineering metrics. Adams can also be used to analyze drivelines, but its focus is on transient effects and, for drivelines, is mainly used for final verification of the design.

Romax also uses the latest standard to design and rate components to provide the accurate boundary conditions necessary to obtain meaningful results from these standards; Romax performs a detailed nonlinear structural analysis of the whole system to predict forces and misalignments of all critical components.

The Romax frequency domain analysis is fast, highly accurate and generates easy-to-interpret results. As such, it can be used very early in the design phase, meaning potential issues can be identified while they’re easy and cost-effective to fix.

The parametric nature of Romax Spectrum combined with short runtimes means design optimization is also possible. As the design matures, fully detailed Spectrum models can be used alongside Adams to ensure all potential NVH issues have been investigated.
